PI Athrey was part of a select group from the Texas A&M University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to present talks at the Tyson Headquarters as part of the Tyson Lectureship Series. This invitation offered us a unique platform to showcase the breadth and depth of TAMU’s expertise in areas valuable to Tyson.
Bridging Academia and Industry
Our visit offered many opportunities to bridge the gap between academia and industry. Our presentations covered various topics, reflecting our group’s diverse research interests and expertise. It was a chance to highlight the innovative work being done at TAMU and how it aligns with Tyson’s goals and challenges in the agricultural sector.
Touring Tyson’s Facilities
Part of our visit included a tour of Tyson’s facilities in Springdale, giving us a firsthand look at their operations. This experience was invaluable, providing insights into the practical applications of our research and the industry’s complexities.
Fostering Connections
Perhaps one of the most rewarding aspects of the trip was the chance to spend time with my TAMU colleagues, including Drs. McElroy, Mathis, Farnell, Osburn, Wickersham, Gehring, and Dean Savell. The trip was a terrific opportunity to share ideas, and discuss potential collaborative projects, and build connections.
A Platform for Future Collaboration
Our participation in the Tyson Lectureship Series was about presenting our current research and laying the groundwork for future partnerships and collaborative efforts. As we reflect on our visit to Tyson HQ, it’s clear that opportunities like the Tyson Lectureship Series are crucial for fostering dialogue and collaboration between academia and industry. I am grateful for the chance to represent TAMU and share our work with Tyson, and I look forward to further opportunities for collaboration.
