Thanks for visiting the Athrey Lab website!
Scientific research is increasingly interdisciplinary and collaborative, and it’s a great time to work with colleagues, students, and scholars who come from various backgrounds. I describe myself as a naturalist first and then as a geneticist, and going back to natural history has always informed my approaches to my research. I am fascinated by the idea of what genetics can tell us about how things work inside and all around us. My broad interests are in using genetics to illuminate biological processes at various levels – from the cellular to the organismal to the population level. A major objective of my research program is to use the knowledge generated through research to enable solutions for real-world problems – novel tools to fight diseases to help define practices and models for sustainable agriculture and conservation.
