CEIF Meeting in Springdale

On November 15th, our lab team and graduate students Kamaryn Beamsley, Elizabeth Holda, and Mollie Cobb had the opportunity to attend and present at the Center for Environmental Sustainability through Insect Farming (CEIF) meeting. This year’s gathering, hosted at the Tyson headquarters in Springdale, AR, brought together leading researchers, industry professionals, and sustainability advocates to discuss the latest advancements and future directions in insect farming and its role in environmental sustainability.

Presenting Our Ongoing Work

The meeting was a platform for our lab to showcase the ongoing research supported by CEIF. Our presentations covered how insect protein can be optimized for use in the poultry industry and overall environmental sustainability. The work presented by our team emphasized the innovative approaches and findings from our studies, contributing valuable insights to the field.

Engaging Discussions on Future Avenues

Beyond presenting our current research, the meeting was an excellent opportunity for engaging with other attendees on new avenues for continued work in the sector. Discussions ranged from the challenges of scaling insect farming operations to the potential for insects as an alternative protein source in various industries. These conversations highlighted the collaborative spirit of the CEIF community and its dedication to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in environmental sustainability.

A Collaborative Effort

The participation of Elizabeth Holda and Mollie Cobb, who have contributed to our project’s success, underscored the collaborative effort of our lab’s work. Their contributions to Kamaryn Beamsley’s project represent our team members’ diverse skills and dedication.

Reflecting on Our Experience

The CEIF meeting in Springdale showcased our lab’s work and emphasized the interdisciplinary approaches that are key to innovations needed for addressing sustainability challenges. The potential for insect farming to play a significant role in creating a more sustainable future is immense, and we are excited to be part of this evolving field.
