On June 8, Jamie Alfieri marked the culmination of his doctoral journey at Texas A&M University’s Ecology and Evolutionary Biology program with the successful defense of his dissertation titled “The Role of Hybridization and Selective Breeding in Generating Diversity in Landfowl.” This event represents the completion of Jamie’s PhD journey and highlights his research contributions to our understanding of diversity in landfowl.
New insights into Landfowl Diversity
Jamie’s dissertation explores the mechanisms of hybridization and selective breeding, shedding light on how these processes contribute to the genetic diversity and trait variation within chicken and other Galliformes. Co-advised by Dr. Heath Blackmon from the Biology Department, Jamie’s work stands at the intersection of genetics, agriculture, and evolutionary biology, offering new insights into the dynamics that shape natural diversity.
An Enriching Journey and Future Endeavors
Having Jamie as a student in our lab has been an enriching experience for his peers and mentors. His dedication, originality, and innovative research approach have set an example for others in the lab.
As Jamie transitions from his doctoral studies to the next phase of his academic career, he is set to begin a postdoctoral position with Dr. Howard Ochman at the University of Texas-Austin.
Celebrating Success and Looking Forward
Jamie’s successful defense is a celebration of his hard work, perseverance, and the impactful research he has conducted during his time at TAMU. We are incredibly proud of Jamie’s achievements and are excited to follow his future scientific contributions as he embarks on his postdoctoral journey. We also celebrated his successful defense at Chimy’s.
