{"id":731,"date":"2020-04-03T12:05:22","date_gmt":"2020-04-03T17:05:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/giriathrey.com\/home\/?p=731"},"modified":"2020-05-13T12:11:05","modified_gmt":"2020-05-13T17:11:05","slug":"darwin-day-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/giriathrey.com\/home\/2020\/04\/03\/darwin-day-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Darwin Day 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This year\u2019s Darwin Day event, the biggest biology outreach event in the Brazos Valley was a giant success and enormously fun event. The event attracted over 650 people, some from as far away as south Texas. The success was no doubt due to our headlining guests \u2013 Drs. Rosemary &amp; Peter Grant, from Princeton University.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over their four day visit, the Grants not only gave the Darwin Day public keynote, but they also accompanied several EEBL members and students on a trip down to the Texas coast for a birding trip. And their visit was capped by another heavily attended seminar the following week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was also successful in drawing community members to great informal-learning experience. Over 30 TAMU researchers (in addition to museums and wildlife organizations) set up interactive booths and exhibits. These boots drew droves of people of all ages. It was the first interaction with biology for many in the audience and it made for a tremendously electric and festive atmosphere. We have to see what next year brings, but it may look quite different due to the COVID-19.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some pictures from the event:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2
