We don’t study these axes as isolated physiology — we read their molecular signatures, with multi-omics and mass-spectrometry biomarkers, and ask how the same conserved circuitry expresses itself in two very different model systems. In avian models, that’s fertility, health, and the gut–brain–microbiome connection in birds. In insect models, it’s the behavior, reproduction, and microbiomes of the mosquitoes and flies that move disease.
